Spring Review - Secondary

Here we go: 2007 SECONDARY - Spring Review

Creating depth in the Secondary was key for us during Spring. We're returning three (3) starters, Victor Harris, DJ Parker and Brandon Flowers, each had a great and solid Spring. I thought Victor Harris and DJ did an outstanding job through Spring. Brandon was still recovering from his injury from the Bowl game, so I thought he was 'OK,' not where he needs to be quite yet, but I thought he was OK.

We had Rashad Carmichael and Stephan Virgil - two guys at Corner, that I saw get better as we worked through Spring practices. They're like a lot of the younger guys where they're gaining a lot of valuable experience, but they're not where we need them to be just yet. I am excited to see them pick up where they left off, and see how they improve this Summer.

Rover - The other key position for us to improve on as we lost Rouse and Wade there. I really liked Kam Chancellor, he played at one of our corners last year as a true freshman, he has a chance to be something special. He's got good size, very physical and has play-making abilities. I think this is going to be a good move for us and for him. I think you'll see him continue to grow and improve at that spot. The guy that's battling him is Dorian Porch, who also had a solid Spring.

So you can tell I feel pretty good about this bunch of kids. We've got some young kids mixed in here and I feel we're making good progress, I like the improvements and progress of this group. If these guys can come back for Summer where they left off from Fall and continue their mental and physical preparations, I think you'll see some overall big improvements and I believe we've got a heck of a football team here.

Go Hokies!!

Bud
